2). Discuss Strong versus Valid Arguments in detail. Give an example of each from everyday life.
For an argument to be valid the premises has to be false with no possible way for it to be true and at the same time the conclusion has to be false as well. For an argument to be strong, the premises has to be true but the conclusion can be false.
Valid Argument Example:
Mari is a girl. All girls wear dresses to school dances. So Mari wore a dress. This is a valid argument because Mari is a girl and she did wear a dress. The first and third premises is true but the second premises is false because not all girls wear dresses to the dance or even in general.
Strong Argument Example:
Every animal that have wings can fly. Therefore, chickens can fly because they have wings. This is a strong argument because not all animals with wings can fly. So the conclusion can be false.
Yours Truly,
ReplyDeleteYour post was very simple, which made it very easy to read and understand. I really like your examples for both valid and strong arguments. Your valid argument makes sense because we can trust that Mari is a girl and wore a dress to the dance. However, not all girls wear dresses to the dance, whether it's not their style or they didn't feel like wearing one that night. Your strong argument was good because for a second I did think all animals with wings can fly. I totally forgot about chickens haha. Good job, but you could have gone into more depth with your second example explanation.
I like your post. Both examples are good supportives for Valid and Strong argument. Your post is interesting and gave me a better idea to both topics. Whenever I'm going out with friends, someone would ask what he or she would wear. If it is a female, I usually mention a dress since ladies can never go wrong with dresses and heels for the club. haha. Same idea with us men, we wear button ups because its semi formal. I mean, we have to look good if the ladies are going to take their time to get ready for the night outings. In result, great example.
